Director, Marketing

Aries Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on commercializing best in class products to treat gastrointestinal diseases. Aries Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aries Group, Ltd. which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cosmo Pharmaceuticals, N.V.

Aries first approved product, Eleview, is an injectable composition intended for use in gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. In addition, the company has a robust pipeline of three late-stage gastrointestinal focused products.  Aries is building the infrastructure in San Diego, CA to commercialize these products starting with the launch of Eleview which recently took place in early May.

Scope:

The Director of Marketing will be a key member of the Marketing department, and overall company leadership team, charged to shape commercialization strategy for Aries’ planned 2018 US launch of our first pharmaceutical product within the colorectal cancer market (proprietary Methylene Blue MMX® for detection of pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions and polyps throughout the colon).

This individual will lead the planning, development and execution of key strategic and tactical activities related to creating, launching, and managing a comprehensive multi-channel promotional platform targeting HCP, patients and potential other key customers (e.g. payers). Key activities will focus on communicating a compelling brand story, development of advertising campaigns, creating collateral materials, equipping the sales team, identifying non-personal promotion initiatives, and creating a strong brand presence at medical conferences.

Location: San Diego, CA

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and manage brand strategies and tactical execution of diverse marketing initiatives. Communicate brand strategies and performance regularly to senior management.
  • Develop and implement the product launch plan, including pre-launch readiness activities that engage potential customers and help to accelerate launch adoption potential.
  • Develop brand identity by defining product positioning, messaging, and creative campaign. Convert brand development activity into promotional communication campaigns, programs and materials.
  • Collaborate with other Marketing department brand leaders for current on-market and pipeline products for effective and seamless engagement with key internal and external customers.
  • Liaise with other internal departments, including Sales, Sales Training, Market Access, R&D, Finance, Legal, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Compliance, and IS personnel to achieve brand goals and objectives.
  • Hire direct report(s) and provide guidance and mentoring for responsibilities and performance.
  • Interpret and translate scientific, clinical, competitive, customer need and market trend data into Marketing applications.
  • Drive processes, measurement, and analytics supporting annual business and brand planning.
  • Engage with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL’s) to ensure creation and seamless roll out of high impact, high value marketing strategy and associated tools.
  • Collaborate with Sales Training to ensure effective, impactful, world class training on promotional tools and programs.
  • Identify and manage advertising and promotion budgets; developing and monitoring relevant metrics to ensure program success.
  • Coordinate the work of external ad agencies and vendors.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Position generally requires 8-10 years of pharmaceutical product marketing experience. Relevant industry experience in other roles (such as Sales leadership, Market Research, Advertising Agency, etc.) and/or healthcare segments may allow for flexibility in required years of Marketing experience.
  • Product launch experience desired.
  • Experience in digital marketing as well as direct-to-patient activities strongly desired.
  • Experience in Gastroenterology and/or Oncology Therapeutic Area a strong plus.
  • Proven product strategy, tactical planning and execution skills.
  • Ability to inform needed market research and market analytics.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
  • Able to function independently.

Director, Value & Access

Scope:

The Director of Value & Access will help lead Aries’ creation and implementation of best-in-class Value & Access capabilities leading to access and profit optimization of Aries’ pharmaceutical and device product portfolio. This individual will be a key member of the commercial leadership team, and serve as a principal contributor to integrate cross functional efforts and shape commercialization strategy within the US market.

Primary emphasis will be to design and implement go-to-market commercialization strategies for Aries’ intended launch of three GI specialty pharmaceutical products over the next 18-24 months. Key activities will focus on creating and communicating compelling product value proposition aligned with customer needs and access decision process; engage with external stakeholders to inform and validate specific products and company strategies; develop the information, tools and resources for customers and company personnel that support optimal market access; and help formulate channel and payer engagement strategies for every lifecycle phase.

The position does not currently have direct reports but future expansion is possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a vision and strategic plan for Value & Access across all company products in alignment with the objectives of US Commercial Operations.
  • Maintain strategic and operational alignment with Account Management, Trade and Contracting organizations in areas of payer marketing, value proposition development, pricing and contracting strategies, and admin fees/rebate negotiations.
  • Fully understand and stay abreast of the complex and ever-changing US payer and channel landscape; assess challenges and impact on Aries’ current and future products; identify key trends and requirements for decision makers, reimbursement authorities, and payers.
  • Interface with key stakeholders and influencers, including payer, HCP, government, advocacy, & patient entities to represent company interests, appropriately influence policies, rulemaking and coverage, coding, and payment policies for Aries products in alignment with key company interests.
  • Analyze situation in terms of coverage and reimbursement of Aries products, existing and emerging payer policies, competitive landscape and trends, pricing and contracting strategies/trade-offs, potential barriers to provider and patient access, and opportunities to influence improved outcomes.
  • Work closely with Medical Affairs and R&D to provide recommendations and rationale for evidence development plans in terms of health economic, patient centric and real-world effectiveness data. Contribute to clinical/HEOR studies and medical communication activities to advance market access goals.
  • Work closely with Commercial and Medical teams on channel communication strategies including development of disease education presentations, value dossier, and other product and support education.
  • Build product value propositions, programs, tools, resources, and market responses to better position and influence favorable access and patient persistency; achieve cost-effective, efficient delivery of products and services to payers, providers, and patients.
  • Generate insights to understand and validate product value through continuous key stakeholder engagement (e.g. market research, advisory boards, interviews, account visits, etc.).
  • Help assess, identify and manage potential programs such as patient financial assistance (PAP), and co-pay support.
  • Align Value & Access strategic and tactical plans to integrate with and achieve Aries strategic commercial initiatives and revenue forecasts; heighten the integral role of Market Access within the commercial operation.

Collaborate with Aries Stakeholders to provide insight and support in key areas including:

  • Pricing & Contracting: price setting, monitoring, and management strategy; contracting strategy for key sites of care and channels.
  • Payer Strategy: strategic account targeting and strategy; Account Management strategy and implementation; Reimbursement Strategy (Coverage, Coding, and Payment).
  • Patient Access Programs: patient assistance programs; co-pay support programs; foundation support strategy; field reimbursement support services.
  • Trade: distribution and dispensing strategies; account team for 3PL, wholesalers / distributors, Specialty Pharmacy.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of pharmaceutical or relative industry experience in positions related to Market Access/Managed Markets.
  • In depth understanding of US Market Access, pricing and reimbursement dynamics, requirements and regulations.
  • Experience in Gastroenterology Therapeutic Area and Hospital and/or Ambulatory Surgery Center markets desired.
  • Experience in product launch readiness, including development of product value communication strategy and tools (e.g. dossier, models, etc.).
  • Ability to design and conduct market research to support product value.
  • Must be flexible, able to manage multiple tasks, and have strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts at all levels.

Medical Science Liaison – Southern California

Scope:
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based member of Medical/Scientific Affairs. The MSLs will interact often with Aries Medical Affairs, the clinical team, and Scientific Affairs in support of current and future products.  The MSLs will also provide clinical support when needed across other company departments.  In addition, the MSLs are a medical information resource for health care providers across the country.  The MSL team will act as a liaison between Aries and clinical trial sites, be a clinical resource for Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and other health care providers, collect feedback from KOLs, and utilize in-depth knowledge of Aries products to fulfill a variety of medical information needs.

Location: Southern California

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and meet with KOLs in order to establish and maintain long-term collaborative relationships to provide medical information for Aries products. The MSL will also act as a liaison between the KOL and the company.
  • While working with KOLs and other HCPs, identify key clinical issues and other points of interest and communicate internally.
  • Provide scientific and liaison support for the involvement of KOLs in advisory, educational, and company research opportunities.
  • Support managed markets as needed. This includes clinical presentations, answering medical information questions, and additional follow up by request.
  • Serve as primary medical affairs contact with key academic centers and other community-based centers of excellence.
  • Act as the liaison between Aries and investigators for all investigator initiated trials from submission through publication.
  • Conduct Medical/Scientific Affairs initiatives at a territory level in alignment with company strategies and tactics.
  • Support healthcare provider requests for medical information.       MSL to follow up with HCPs when in-person follow up is requested.
  • Provide product presentations through a company sponsored speaker’s bureau or clinical presentations by request of a HCP.
  • Assist with training of speaker’s bureau during training meetings and one-on-one speaker training as needed.
  • Attend and support company activities at national and regional medical meetings.
  • Assist with sales training for new hires and regional and national company meetings.
  • Participate and help facilitate regional and national medical advisory boards.
  • Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in all current and future products of Aries Pharmaceuticals.


Education/Experience/Qualifications
:

  • MD, PhD, PharmD, or MS strongly preferred. 3 – 5 years of clinical and/or industry experience required.
  • Clinical and/or industry experience in the field of gastroenterology strongly preferred.
  • Clinical and/or industry experience with pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and medical devices preferred.
  • Clinical and/or industry experience with managed markets and understanding of relevant regulations preferred.
  • Candidate must have good one-on-one communication and group presentation skills.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently, within groups, and across departments in a collegial manner.
  • A high degree of personal initiative, problem solving skills, and a high professional standard for all interactions is required.
  • Travel may range between 60% and 80%, rarely exceeding 80%.
